All music show!
Featuring Amelia Royko and Gigi May.
Playing together live for the first time since the 4H talent show 14 years ago.

A bit of music from me and then my dear friend Barry Bennett all the way from Chicago - you know him from MilkBabY, Grape Juice Plus, Mrs. Smith and the Present. After he plays a solo set we'll improvise together a bit.

Barry Bennett: Nord Drum 3P, vocals, knobs and buttons

Barry is super excited to be music making on a Madison stage after a nearly 10 year absence and to be sharing the bill with one his all time faves and Madison favorite, Stephanie Rearick.

Based in Chicagoland, Barry is a musical improviser and a Jeff nominated maker of theatrical music and sound with over 40 world premieres, a multitude of albums under his own name (BarryBennettSounds) and as a band leader — with the seminal trance outfit, MiLkBabY and the art rock group he currently leads, GRAPE JUICE PLUS. He is also the director of the improvisational modern dance music mash up called, Impending Behavior Orchestra.

Theater and dance companies he has worked with in Chicagoland would include:

The Goodman, Victory Gardens, 16th Street Theater (former resident composer), Winifred Haun & Dancers (artistic associate), Lifeline, Chicago Dramatists (former associate artist), Mordine and Company, Something Marvelous, Writers’ Theatre, The Aardvark, Steppenwolf, The Art Institute, Emerald City, National Pastime, Cindy Brandle Dance Company, PROP THTR, Chicago Moving Company (former composer in residence), Estrogen Fest, Asimina Chremos, Breakbone Dance, Rhino Fest, and others.

Since 1995, Barry has practiced the art of modern dance accompaniment. It is one of his joys and constant source of inspiration.

You can also find Barry drumming with indie rock bands such as Mrs. Smith and The Present, Brother Derek, and The Przmatics.

Fun Fact: during the pandemic, Barry recorded a series of side length recordings called The Shut In Sides. There are 20 of them. They can be found here... https://barrybennett.bandcamp.com/

Friday July 24, 4-6pm at UW Memorial Union Terrace
Behind the Beat Series

Stephanie Rearick (solo - keys loops Casio, trumpet)
I’ll play solo on the terrace on a hot sunny July afternoon, one of my very favorite shows to play.

Hope to see you soon,
Stephanie
