The Human Show ep. 46: Reverence
Feat. Avedis Manoogian with an extended music set, and interview guest Sun E. Jenkins.

M. Eugene Jenkins, professionally known as Sun E Jenkins, is a Madison-based hip-hop artist, audio engineer, and the visionary CEO of One Sun Productions ENT LLC. Following the release of his profoundly moving tribute album, Reverence, Sun is currently developing a multi-pillar commercial and creative hub in downtown Madison. Through his music, his upcoming retail and culinary ventures, and a dedicated 32-week youth mentorship curriculum, Sun is executing a modern blueprint for community advancement, economic mobility, and creative excellence.

Pianist Avedis Manoogian grew up in a uniquely creative household: his parents—violin virtuoso Vartan Manoogian and the imaginative visual artist Brigitte Manoogian—instilled both technical rigor and artistic curiosity from an early age.
Avedis began his formal musical training with pianist and John Cage scholar Ellsworth Snyder, and later with Nina Svetlanova. He went on to study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison with Carroll Chilton, followed by advanced work in Minneapolis with Margo Garrett and Timothy Lovelace.
While living in Minneapolis he cultivated his longtime interest in theater working as music director and composer for companies such as UM Guthrie program, Bedlam Theatre, Nautilus Theater, Children’s Theater of Minneapolis, and the Theatre de la jeune lune.
After his studies, he relocated to Cincinnati, where he became a part of the city’s performing arts scene. While there he served as a music director for the Cincinnati Opera’s outreach program, and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music’s (CCM) Spoleto festival.
Throughout his life he has worked with developing string players at Wisconsin String Academy, MacPhail Center for the Arts, Cincinnati Suzuki Cooperative, the Marion Peraza String Workshop, and Madison Conservatory.
He has worked with many American composers such as Joel Naumann recording his complete works for piano. After a performance of John Downey’s Night Piece for piano and violin, Mr. Downey took the work he had composed as a student of Nadia Boulanger and expanded it into a three movement sonata which was subsequently performed at DePaul University, the native chicagoan’s alma mater. In 2005 he was deeply
honored to perform with the legendary composer and innovator, Roscoe Mitchell, a seminal influence and inspiration since childhood. In 2008, he was honored to collaborate with composer John Harbison on a program of Kurtag 4-hand arrangements of Bach coupled with performances from Bach’s The Art of the Fugue. With his recent return to Madison, Avedis now teaches piano, analysis,
and college prep at Madison Conservatory and teaches piano for WYSO
Music Makers.
His work continues to explore the intersections of all forms of music, cabaret, and improvisation, bringing a lifetime of experience in both classical and experimental traditions to every performance.
